Is it possible to change international students every week?

That's not the idea. The Dinehome project prefers continuity, and the idea of host family is born when it is always the same student who is hosted by a family. Thus a continuous relationship is born and the student feels an integral part of the family.

What if I feel bad the first time?

It can happen that there's no feeling. However, we recommend that you try at least a second time, to make sure that you don't really want to continue. If you don't like the Dinehome experience itself and you want to stop participating, just write us. If you like the experience, but believe it may be more satisfying in a different family, or by hosting a different student, you will change your family and student respectively. It is important to be truthful from the beginning in order to avoid a situation of discomfort for both parties.

Does the host family only have to cook typical food?

No, the family has to cook like a normal family dinner. Clearly, having a guest, it is advisable to be more careful in choosing and preparing the food.

We live in the provinces, are we too far away to participate?

International students reside in the city centre. So the area outside the city is pretty out of their way. However if there is a reliable and fast public transport connection with the centre the exchange can be done.

Should the weekly dinner fall on the same day or can it be arranged from time to time?

The day of the weekly dinner can be agreed from time to time with the student and in case of unforeseen circumstances the dinner can be postponed. It is not a problem if sometimes you will not be available, just let the student know in advance and maybe postpone the dinner. We always invite you to keep the dinners on an ongoing basis. We let you organize your own dinners so that we can meet everyone's needs.

Is it possible to choose the nationality of the student to host?

During registration it is possible to indicate the preference of the student's nationality. Volunteers will choose the profile of a boy or girl who best suits your needs and interests.

What happens once we apply as a host family?

Which students participate in the exchange?

Gli studenti che partecipano a Dinehome desiderano conoscere la cultura locale e condividere la propria con entusiasmo. L’età dei nostri studenti è compresa tra i 20 e i 30 anni ed essi provengono da tantissimi Paesi tra cui: Francia, Germania, Spagna, Stati Uniti, Inghilterra, Pakistan, Turchia e altri ancora. L'Italia non è una destinazione casuale, infatti i ragazzi che arrivano hanno scelto il nostro Paese tra tantissime altre destinazioni possibili perché appassionati e curiosi della nostra lingua, cibo e cultura.

Come funziona l'esperienza Dinehome?

Dinehome is a cultural and linguistic exchange program that will allow you to meet university students from all over the world. Once enrolled, you will be paired with an international student and invited to dinner at your home for five or more dinners together. During the dinners, week after week, you will have the opportunity to make friends, discover new stories and traditions and converse in a foreign language, which will be English or the student's mother tongue. Does it cost to register as a host family?

Si, iscriversi ha un costo annuale che varia in base al piano scelto: l'esperienza Dinehome si divide tra scambio culturale (opzione Globetrotter, 39€/anno) e scambio linguistico (opzione Madrelingua, 70€/studente e soggetta a disponibilità).

How can I get a refund?

You are entitled to a refund from the fourth week after registration. Until you receive the contact of your first pairing you can request cancellation from the service by email to hello@dinehome.it and be entitled to a full refund on your order.

How can I register in Dinehome as a host family?

To register as a host family go to the page "Become a Host Family for one dinner a week" here: https://www.dinehome.it/famiglia and fill in the registration form for the city you live in. We will verify your application within 72 hours.

Yes, international students are verified. We carefully check the basic information of our students, such as name, address, social profiles, telephone number, ID, and in addition we carry out video interviews via whatsapp on a sample basis.

How do I get to the Host Family's house?

The host family's house, unless otherwise agreed with the family, the student is required to reach it independently (feet, public transport, bike, etc.).In case the family lives outside the city, and the house is not reachable by public transport, the family itself will take charge of the transport.

Should the international student bring something to the family?

No, the student is not required to bring anything or contribute in any way to the dinner. Of course, if he wants to bring something, he can.

Is it possible to go with friends/boyfriends to the dinner?

That's not the idea. Dinehome was born as a personal experience, so going in two or more is not allowed.

If you have a special diet? Celiac? Vegan?

It is important to let your host family know at first contact so that they can take your diet into account when preparing food.

What is expected of a Host Student?

In general, you will be asked to speak in your native language or English in exchange for one dinner a week. It is essential that you communicate with your hosts as much in advance as possible so that both of you are aware of each other's expectations.

Come funziona l'esperienza Dinehome?

Dinehome è un programma di scambio culturale e linguistico. Una volta fatta la domanda, sarai abbinato con una famiglia ospitante locale che ti offrirà cinque o più cene insieme.
